Andaz Liverpool Street is the first property of the Hyatt Hotels International. The Hotel’s distinctive brand values include support of the local and international art and design scene- During the festival, the hotel will host a number of installations and events. Among them is the sleeping capsule installation by French designer Mathieu Lehanneur. Once Upon A Dream is a pod like structure that lulls one to sleep to rapidly recuperate from jetlag and adapt to new surroundings (such as hotels), within an extraordinary fairy-tale like space.
Gallery Libby Sellers will present Branches, Simon Heijdens’ latest work. The static space of Andaz’s 1901 lounge will be transposed into a forest of light. Simon Heijdens is at the forefront of a pioneering generation of designers that have moved beyond traditional boundaries of product design to employ digital media in order to imbue our built environment with a richer layering of experience.
Located outdoors, in front of the Hotel, Portuguese designers Like Architects (Diogo Aguiar and Teresa Otto) will create a dramatic yet functional light installation and Andaz pop-up bar out of the humble plastic storage box.
Rolf Sachs will open his lauded studio to the public for one day only. On show will be his acclaimed limited edition furniture and lighting designs, recent prototypes and one-off pieces. Sachs celebrates everyday objects by taking them out of their usual context and reinterpreting them in an experimental manner, reflecting his passion for surrealism, humour and functionalism.
