Together with a group of like-minded partners, Design Hotels™ introduces The Papaya Playa Project, in Tulum, Mexico, a temporary resort that brings guests closer to the surrounding nature. Situated on a 900 meter stretch of oceanfront paradise on the Caribbean coast of the Mayan Riviera, the raw-luxe camp has an urban spirit that encourages visitors to come together and be inspired. Known for its pristine white beaches, lush forests and the only major Mayan ruin along the coast, Tulum is one of the world’s best beach destinations – a place where ancient culture and a modern creative spirit merge.
Dotted along the beach and nestled in the jungle, the simplicity of the 99 cabañas is what lends them their special charm. Renovated by the Design Hotels™ creative team, these thatch-roofed cabañas are made using ecological and local materials, while fresh colors, cozy beds, the highest quality sheets and thoughtful details make for a comfortable stay.
Approximately half of the cabañas are outfitted with private bathrooms and the others share a central bathhouse. The cabañas range from a private house with five bedrooms and an outdoor living room, to the more modest shared accommodations and crash pads that offer an economical way to experience the camp.
