China's imports of bauxite ore are rushing

China's imports of bauxite ore increased by over 33 per cent in May compared to the same month in 2018. It shows recent statistics from the country's customs authority, the site says Aluminum Insider.

Imports of bauxite, which is used to manufacture aluminium, amounted to 9.71 million tonnes in May, which at the same time was a slight decrease compared to the import figures for April this year.

Over 90 per cent of bauxite imports came from mines in Guinea, Australia and Indonesia.

The background to the rampant imports is that Chinese bauxite mines have been forced to drastically cut production due to stricter environmental requirements.
