SPM has received a major order from SCA Obbola to deliver the advanced and multifunctional online system, Intellinova Parallel EN, for the PM2 kraftliner machine.

A total of more than 1,100 vibration sensors will be installed. For selected positions in the forming, press, and drying sections, this will also include the installation of connectors, sensor cables, and junction boxes. In addition, new measurement points will be implemented on process-critical machine components.

To integrate the new system into the existing stainless steel cabinets, SPM has developed a custom mounting plate. This solution enables the installation of four 32-channel Intellinova Parallel EN boards per cabinet, including cabling, cable trays, and terminals. All equipment is assembled at SPM’s headquarters in Strängnäs and then delivered to SCA for on-site installation.

With the new system, all measurement points will be equipped with DuoTech accelerometers, providing maximum early warning of changes in machine condition. This enables more effective planning of maintenance activities within scheduled shutdown windows, thereby increasing machine availability and production.

The system will utilize SPM’s patented measurement technologies SPM HD and HD ENV, delivering high-resolution results in both time waveform and frequency spectrum.

SPM is responsible for the complete project delivery, including sub-contractor installation services. The project started in February 2026 and is scheduled for completion in December 2026.

The delivery also includes the latest analysis software, Condmaster 2026, featuring functions such as the Decision Support System (machine learning), AI Chat Agent, and the KPI module Plant Performer.

Maintenance engineers Jan Lundgren and Jim Lindqvist, with Obbola paper mill, commented on the investment:

“We view the implementation of SPM’s vibration monitoring system at our facility very positively, as well as the opportunity to further strengthen our already well-established collaboration with SPM, a leading provider of advanced measurement technology. This investment represents an important step in further securing and improving our operational reliability and forward planning from multiple perspectives. With the high-tech solutions and precision offered by the new sensors and SPM’s patented measurement technologies, we will gain enhanced capabilities for planning maintenance and optimizing production performance.

It is clear that SPM is at the forefront of its industry, and we look forward to continuing our journey together to ensure that SCA Obbola remains a benchmark for efficiency and innovation in kraftliner production in the future.”

SCA Obbola and SPM have a long-standing relationship and well-established collaboration, with the mill having invested in various condition monitoring systems over the years. The Obbola mill has more than 100 years of history, approximately 300 employees, and an annual production capacity of 725,000 tons of kraftliner on PM2, the world’s largest and most advanced kraftliner paper machine.

SCA Obbola is part of SCA, Europe’s largest private forest owner, producing wood products, pulp, packaging paper, and renewable energy. In 2024, SCA had approximately 3,400 employees and an-nual sales of around SEK 20 billion. The company was founded in 1929 and is headquartered in Sundsvall, Sweden.
