On July 22, 2025, Liansheng Pulp & Paper successfully started up their newest coated board making line PM 2. The board machine, with a wire width of 8.85 meters, produces folding boxboard grades and will further strengthen Liansheng Pulp & Paper’s coated board product portfolio and enhance their market competitiveness. The PM 2 project is a model example of fast and effective project execution: It took less than 10 months from the installation of the first dryer cylinder to the full machine line start-up.

“I am delighted with the successful start-up of PM 2. This is a result of close collaboration between Valmet and Liansheng, and is a reflection of Valmet’s reliable process technology, project management expertise, and innovative spirit. I sincerely want to thank both teams for their tireless efforts, which have led to yet another milestone in our successful cooperation. The simultaneous successful start-up of Liansheng Pulp & Paper’s Phase II BCTMP Line 2 and PM 2 has demonstrated the project team’s persistent drive and commitment. I look forward to continuing the deep collaboration between both teams to optimize the BCTMP pulp line and PM 2 together, and setting a new benchmark for the industry,” says Huang Ju, General Manager of the Industrial Paper Division at Liansheng Pulp & Paper.

“I sincerely thank both teams for all their efforts and contributions to the project! During the project implementation, both teams demonstrated proactive planning, efficient communication, and close coordination, which ensured the overall progress of the project. One of the key factors in the project’s success was Valmet’s high responsiveness to the start-up target. They strove to coordinate domestic and international project resources and adjusted the delivery schedule, enabling the start-up to happen more than two months ahead of schedule," says Li Guowei, Deputy General Manager of Industrial Paper Division at Liansheng Pulp & Paper.

“It has been great to witness the successful commissioning and smooth start-up of PM 2 by the Liansheng team, along with our project and site teams. The machine started up at a speed of 800 meters per minute and successfully produced its roll of cartonboard. The PM 2 project was built on continuous lessons from previous projects together. At every stage, from design, manufacturing, and delivery to onsite construction and commissioning, the Valmet team worked in close cooperation with the Liansheng team. I also have to say that their project team’s extensive experience is truly admirable," says Aki Virtanen, Project Manager at Valmet.

“The successful start-up of PM 2 would not have been possible without the Liansheng project team’s extensive project management experience and precise control of the key milestones. Sincere thanks to Liansheng’s and Valmet’s hardworking project teams, Valmet’s production units and all the behind-the-scenes heroes who participated in and supported the project! I look forward to even closer cooperation with Liansheng in the future, and to continuous optimization of PM 2 so it can reach full production and speed as soon as possible,” says Hao Tao, Project Manager at Valmet.
