Nordic Paper Fish Food

Nordic Paper’s paper mill in Säffle may start to produce fish food. The mill has a partnership with the biotech company, Cewatech, to further refine sugar-rich sulphite waste liquor.

Eva Pettersson at Nordic Paper in Säffle said, “This is a further development of one of our residual products. Our sulphite waste liquor contains a great deal of sugar, which can be refined into a fungus biomass. This can in turn provide environmentally friendly fish food with the help of Cewatech’s technology.”

A pilot facility will now be constructed in Säffle in order to produce quantities of fungus biomass sufficient enough to advance and optimise the process. Vinnova, a Swedish Government development authority will contribute just under 2.5 million Kronor to the project.
