September 2010 sees the start of the registration phase for a round robin test entitled ‘Compression tests on fiber composite materials’, which is likely to be one of the most comprehensive of its kind. Included in the round robin are one method with end loading (prEN 2850, Method B), one with shear loading (prEN 2850, Method A) and a method featuring combined loading, as is usually necessary for higher loads (ASTM D 6641).
Participation is available for one or more methods. The aim of the round robin test, which is being performed and evaluated professionally in accordance with ISO/IEC 17043 (2010-02) guidelines, is to assess the individual laboratories in the context of the proficiency test, while generating round-robin data on the various test methods and test fixtures to enable comparison of methods.
This round robin was initiated by Zwick GmbH & Co. KG, while Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid is responsible for organization and evaluation. Specimen production and the necessary pre-tests will be undertaken by GMA-Werkstoffprüfung GmbH, with technical supervision and support provided by TohoTenax. After the close of the registration period in November 2010 the specimens will be produced and sent out, to allow tests to be completed in April 2011. There is a charge for participation in the round robin.
